Wireless Internet is high-speed Internet access, without the use of a cable. Wireless technology employs radio frequency bands to connect to the UNH Network and Internet. UNH wireless technology operates on a radio spectrum and is commonly referred to as WiFi.
UNH supports both WiFi 802.11b and 802.11g. WiFi 802.11g tends to connect somewhat faster than 802.11b; the configuration of your particular wireless network card will determine which WiFi network your computer accesses.
To connect to the UNH Wireless Network, you will need a wireless Ethernet card that conforms to either 802.11b or 802.11g standards. The industry-standard 802.11b/WiFi card has a full-speed range of about 300-500 feet outside, and roughly 150 feet inside. Beyond that distance, connections are still possible; however the further an individual is from a wireless access point, the slower the connection.
Please be sure to read and understand the UNH Acceptable Use (as detailed by the USNH OLPM) at the University of New Hampshire. If you have any questions, problems or concerns please contact the CIS Help Desk & Dispatch Center at 603-862-4242 Monday - Friday, 7:30am until 5:00pm.
