What is Voice Mail?
Modular Messaging Voice Mail takes the place of an answering machine, but provides many additional features, such as:
- Callers can leave you a message when your line is busy as well as when you don't answer your phone
- Your calls can be answered with the standard greeting built into the system or with your own personally recorded greeting
- If you have a message light on your phone, it will light up when someone leaves you a message. If your phone has no message light, when you pick up your handset, you will hear a "stutter" tone to alert you that you have messages
- You can check for and retrieve messages from any phone on or off campus

To Obtain a Voice Mailbox
- If you have a campus extension but do not have a voice mailbox and you would like one, contact telecom@unh.edu to request activation of a voice mailbox associated with your extension. You must be assigned to that extension in Telecom's database management and billing system in order to request voice mail. There are no fees associated with setting up a new voice mailbox on an active extension.
- If you do not have an assigned extension but would like a "voice mailbox only" where people can call campus number to leave messages for you, contact your department's Telecom Account Manager (TAM) to request a voice mailbox only.
Logging In to Retrieve Your Messages
From Your Campus Extension
- Dial 2-4444
- Enter the default password of 1 followed by #
- Follow the prompts to select a new password*
- To record your name, press option 5 then press 5 again, and follow the prompts to record your name**
- Listen to the Activity Menu. The system will announce an abbreviated menu of options. Please listen to and follow the prompts to set up your voice mailbox and retrieve your messages.
From an On-Campus Extension Not Assigned to You
- Dial 2-4444
- Press * followed by #
- Enter your 5-digit extension
- Follow steps 2 through 4 under "From Your Campus Extension"
From Off-Campus
- Dial 862-4444
- Press #
- Enter your five-digit campus extension number
- Follow steps 2 through 4 under "From Your Campus Extension"
*Passwords must be at least three digits, cannot contain ‘0’, cannot be sequential (1234), and cannot contain more than two of the same consecutive number (2333). Listen to the introduction and the prompts to ensure the correct action.
**This is what callers will hear when dialing your number, when you leave them voice mail messages, and what you will hear when logging into voice mail. When you are satisfied with the recording press '#'.
