Internet Explorer Auto-Install Block Utility

Microsoft© generally distributes newer versions of Internet Explorer as a high-priority update via Automatic Updates soon after the final version is released for public use. Microsoft has made available a utility for blocking this distribution for organizations who have concerns about compatibility with existing production systems.

Certain administrative and student service applications (e.g. Banner, Kronos, WebI, Webcat, online admission application, etc.) are not yet compatible with one or more of the newer versions of Internet Explorer. For this reason, it is recommended users do not download or install a newer version of Internet Explorer until such time as compatibility with the administrative application has been confirmed and documented.

To prevent automatic download and potential compatibility issues with IE7 and/or IE8, a utility is available below to block the automatic download and installation of Internet Explorer as part of the Microsoft Windows Updates.

IMPORTANT: These utilities do not permanently restrict or prevent your computer from having or using IE7 or IE8. Rather they merely prevent the program from being installed by the Automatic Update feature of your computer. Once the latest version of Internet Explorer has been tested and validated for full compatibility with UNH systems, it can be unblocked and installed onto your computer at that time.
