FAQ: Account Classifications

Both Secondary and Pool accounts can be used to give work study employees access, which is best for my department?

What type of account your department needs depends on both what applications you are trying to access and your specific needs.

Both accounts will help to ensure that normal business operations are not impacted by frequent employee turn over, since administrative accounts can take up to 2 weeks to create.

How do I determine if my account is a primary, secondary or pool account?

Only a very small subset of users have a secondary or pool account. These accounts are used to fulfill specific job functions and are not created for day to day access to IT resources. If you still need clarification please complete a Question for UNH IT.

My department currently has a 'generic' account, how is this different from a secondary or pool account?

Generic accounts were created in the past to meet department needs. These do not prohibit the sharing of passwords between individuals and therefore do not meet the current standards put forth by the UNH IT Security Director.

Where can I find information on applying for or modifying secondary or pool accounts?
